The Kamishibai of Pinocchio turns storytelling into a captivating visual performance, blending a traditional Japanese theatrical technique with the timeless tale of the world’s most beloved puppet. Its beautifully illustrated story cards are designed to engage children aged 3 to 6, encouraging listening skills, imagination, and text comprehension.

But it’s more than just entertainment: kamishibai is also a valuable educational tool, full of ideas for educators, teachers, and parents. The accompanying guide includes a variety of creative, sensory, comprehension, memory, and role-play activities, allowing the narrative journey to continue long after the story has been told.

Erickson’s Kamishibai
Kamishibai, the traditional “paper theater” of ancient Japan, is a form of narration that combines the dramatization of the narrator with suggestive images.  Children use their imagination while the adult interprets the text printed on the back of the illustrated cards resulting in a performance that involves and frees the imagination.  It is an experience that can be considered complete in itself, but it can also be used as an introduction or a complement for educational workshops with children aged 3-6.  Erickson’s kamishibai has been specially designed for use in schools, especially in early childhood, and its light structure makes it easy to use and transport.
