Mathematical adventures with POP-IT

Numerical challenges of computation and geometry

The volume Mathematical adventures with POP-IT encourages primary school children to learn mental calculations, the four operations, multiplication tables, fractions and decimal numbers, and geometric figures by using the POP-IT, a tool attached to the book.  It can be used with numbers from 1 to 100 and has coloured bands to highlight the totals and facilitate calculation. It is a tool loved by children and capable of involving them both cognitively and emotionally, stimulating and activating multiple channels and learning methods to help them visualize and quantify numbers: a burst bubble corresponds to a precise quantity, with a colour and a visible and concrete texture.

Structure of the book

The volume Mathematical adventures with POP-IT offers 56 activities, puzzles and numerical challenges, to be solved with the attached pop-it. 4 guide characters, Blue, Green, Lemon and Red, accompany young readers on an exciting treasure hunt divided into 10 stages to train them on the most significant thematic cores of the discipline:

  • mental calculation;
  • the four operations;
  • the multiplication tables;
  • fractions and decimal numbers;
  • problems;
  • logic;
  • statistics;
  • 2D geometric figures;
  • symmetry;

At the end of each stage, the child is asked a riddle whose solution will be inserted in the final crossword puzzle to discover the secret key to overcoming any difficulty!

4 nice characters will accompany the children during the activities, giving them advice or helping them to think, while a fun treasure hunt is the setting for the activities

The initial instructions and videos accessible via QR code introduce the tool and how to use it to perform the 4 operations and overcome the various challenges

A total of 56 activities are divided into 10 stages, with which children will face puzzles, challenges and mathematical mysteries, riddles and geometric problems to solve.

By solving the riddles at the end of each of the 10 stages, children will complete the final crossword puzzle and discover the secret to overcoming all the difficulties!
