Depending on the function they perform, cookies can be essentially classified into:

– technical cookies, used for the sole purpose of allowing the site to function;

– profiling cookies, used in order to trace specific actions or behavioral patterns to subjects, in order to create user profiles and send promotional messages in line with the preferences expressed by the user in navigation or to offer the user personalized content.

Cookies can also be used to evaluate the effectiveness of a service offered by a website or to help analyze its traffic: in this case, the cookies used are defined as so-called analytics cookies.

Under certain conditions, including, in particular, the impossibility of directly identifying the data subject through their use, analytics cookies are equated with technical cookies in terms of the conditions and obligations that legitimize their use.
