Caring for and bringing up a child with autism requires parents to acquire specific competences useful for understanding the needs of their child and for avoiding involuntary educational mistakes which could on the one hand reinforce certain problem behaviours and on the other hand generate feelings of inadequacy and frustration. The parent training programme presented in this book comprises 9 sessions designed to provide psychological support to families with an autistic child, with the intention of creating a space for their emotional sharing, where they can share their fears, experiences and hopes.  It includes in-depth analysis of psychological aspects and provides practical tips for teaching and correctly implementing the intervention techniques. Parent training aims to make parents aware of the work they are doing with their child, enabling them to make accurate, precise observations on the child’s functioning at home with the aim of increasing their skills, independence and communication. Using questionnaires, interesting information sheets on autism and photocopiable worksheets, it also aims to support and encourage parents to look after themselves, not to sacrifice their own spaces, interests and friendships and to overcome feelings of guilt and fear, providing benefit to themselves and their children.
