From a traditional pedagogical viewpoint, literacy has a precise starting pint, which generally coincides with the start of formal school education. From this perspective, it has for a long time been difficult to imagine early interventions – of a preventive character too – which precede children’s admission to primary school.
The book tackles learning reading and writing by taking inspiration from the «ecological» neuroconstructivist theory of development, which is based on the idea that emergent literacy skills already appear in the pre-school phase, evolving extremely heterogeneously according to individual characteristics and environmental factors.
The programme of intervention outlined here – designed as a practical programme for the SPEED test – offers a selection of fun activities which take advantage of pre-school children’s natural interest in written language.
The book is designed for nursery school children:
• who spontaneously develop awareness of the alphabetic code,
• with partial mastery of how written code works,
• with fundamental difficulties or limited exposure to environmental stimuli, and who appear not to show any interest towards reading and writing.
