The main objective of the AC-FL fluency tests is that of providing clinicians and teachers with a simple test which ascertains the speed and accuracy in performing complex calculations of children in primary years 4 and 5.
The tool offers three series of operations, which take into consideration specific operational criteria and are already set out in columns:
The calculations given require both good automation of arithmetic facts (mental calculation), and knowledge of the procedures of written calculation. For more in-depth assessment, two parallel versions for each type of algorithm (version A and version B) have been created and they are designed to be set at two different stages during the school year.
Standardised on a sample of 1,600 subjects and with good psychometric properties the AC-FL test can be used both in a clinical setting and at school for class level screening projects and also as entry and exit competence assessment tests in targeted development programmes.
