The ability to perceive and process visual stimuli plays a fundamental role in a child’s growth – at a cognitive, neuromotor and relational level – and is the basis of countless learning, both functional and scholastic.

To encourage the development of this capacity, and therefore the acquisition of effective methods and strategies for organizing information gathered by a child’s surroundings and use it for adaptive purposes, and/or to intervene where deficits are seen, this book provides practical and easy-to-use support for child-care specialists and families of children aged 2 and a half and up.

It contains 150 games divided into the 5 sections corresponding with the major functions used:

  • visual-spatial skills and intermodal integration;
  • visual information analysis;
  • visual and visual-spatial memory;
  • mental representation;
  • pre-reading/writing and pre-math skills

Each game indicates the minimum age at which it can be played, the materials needed, as well as game instructions and variations.  The latter suggests the following:

  • adaptations with the focus on a specific objective, which once reached can be reduced or eliminated
  • adaptations for complicating the activity in order to maintain an adequate level of difficulty in order to keep the child’s interest
  • strategies to favour the generalization of skills acquired from different tasks and situations

In the appendix and online, dozens and dozens of additional resources and worksheets can be found.
