Although a Language Disorder is mainly characterised by language difficulties, it is often accompanied by deficits of an extra-verbal nature, particularly in Executive Functions (EF).
After an initial section in which neuropsychological reference models and the developmental dynamics of EF are outlined, the book examines the topic of their assessment, describing the tools available. Sections dedicated to interventions with the child, family and school — with a wide range of tips and practical suggestions — and the presentation of clinical cases follow. The book also contains practical material focusing on the main components of EF:
• attention, with worksheets for training the two sub-components – selective and sustained attention;
• working memory, with worksheets on abilities connected to verbal and visual-spatial domains;
• planning, with activities aimed at developing higher cognitive abilities;
• inhibition, with activities aimed at practising the ability to control a habitual, predominant response in favour of a less habitual but necessary one.
