The aim of this book is to offer specific information in order to learn about bereavement and its working through process, seen also from the point of view of the bereaved. It also attempts to present those who come into contact with situations of loss, motivations and objectives aimed at active intervention, through an approach based on mutual help (discussions and groups), in order to respond to the growing needs of the community.
Starting from the current meaning of bereavement, a comprehensive vision of the natural history of loss and of anticipatory grief is given, and means for working through loss, repercussions on the family, opportunities for intervention of workers, particular and complex situations and mutual help resources are dealt with. Over the course of the book, each topic unravels bit by bit into a kind of fresco, made up of brush strokes, which, page after page, paint aspects which are interrelated and connected, reinforced in turn by the references to the personal experience of the author, narrated life stories and a marked human and social sensitivity.
Dedicated in particular to health workers, volunteers and staff of hospitals, consulting rooms, districts, care homes and nursing homes, the book can provide important elements for facing bereavement and loss even for educators, teachers and parents.
