THE REVOLUTIONARY TOOL WHICH COMBINES THE WESTERN ABACUS WITH THE CHINESE SUAN PAN!

The SuperAbacus is an innovative base 10 abacus which does not have any colour differentiation for units, tens and hundreds: only the fifth bead on each rod is darker. Inspired by an ancient Chinese tool and coherent with the most recent theoretical models, the SuperAbacus enables pupils to rapidly acquire extraordinary speed in arithmetic calculations because:
–it encourages the semantic processing of numbers, respecting perceptive limits (3-4) with the aid of the darker coloured bead corresponding to 5, which becomes a point of reference for the other numbers;
– it stimulates syntactic abilities through the three rods which differentiate units, tens and hundreds;
– it develops lexical abilities, always requiring the numbers recorded and the partial results obtained to be verbalised.

The SuperAbacus and attached book-exercise book for pupils can be used above all in the first and second years of primary school to teach:
– numbers from 0 to 999;
– addition and subtraction (with or without tens);
– and multiplication.
In later classes the tool can be used to work on equivalences, thousands and decimals.
