Learning to understand the concept of time, estimate the duration of an action and place events in chronological order are important skills needed to build the autonomy of students with special education needs.  This book proposes a structured path, rich in fact sheets and activities, to help them precisely achieve this goal.

This volume is the result of a twenty-year research project by the University of Padua, and represents the translation of this research in the didactic field.

That having a good knowledge of time helps in the study of practically all the subjects is not a new idea, yet we must note that this aspect is not always valued, to the point that it is normal, even for young adults, to estimate that half an hour must have passed when in reality it has been two hours, or that Aristotle or Julius Caesar lived about fifty years ago, that light and sound take the same amount of time (or do not require any time) to travel a certain distance, etc. To avoid having children and adults who are so unaware, it is good to start building up the temporal skills early, keeping in mind the general skills of elaboration and time management and the specific skills related to the individual subjects of study. (Cesare Cornoldi)

The first part of the book, organized in 9 «meetings», contains simple and fun activities for understanding and managing time. The second part presents exercises to facilitate the acquisition of time-related skills based on the specific objectives set for primary school in the various teaching subjects. The Appendix provides three questionnaires to be used by children, parents and teachers for the assessment of skills before and after the programme, while additional online learning materials can be downloaded from the online resources.
